How It Works
How The Adulting Quest™ Works
The Adulting Quest™ is a game-based experience that helps families talk about life after high school through guided play.
Instead of sitting down for a serious talk, families play through quests that turn real-life topics into shared conversation.
Step 1: Set Up the Game
Players choose roles:
The Guide (a parent, guardian, teacher, counselor or mentor)
The Adventurer (a teen or young adult)
Each role comes with a character sheet that helps frame perspective, goals, and expectations before the game begins. This shared structure helps everyone enter the conversation on equal footing.
Step 2: Discover Your Archetypes
Players explore archetypes that reflect how they approach independence, responsibility, and decision-making.
These archetypes aren’t labels. They’re tools that give families a common language to talk about differences in a way that feels neutral and safe.
Step 3: Play Through Guided Quests
The game includes guided quests that focus on real-life topics such as:
- Values and priorities
- Independence and responsibility
- Decision-making and tradeoffs
- Long-term thinking
Each quest uses prompts, reflection, and light gameplay to keep conversations moving naturally. There are no right answers. The goal is exploration, not agreement.
Step 4: Talk, Reflect, and Revisit
The Adulting Quest™ isn’t meant to be played once and put away.
Families can return to quests as life changes, revisit conversations, and build clarity over time. Some play in a single session. Others spread it out over weeks or months. The pace is entirely up to you.
